The Real Cyborgs

The Real Cyborgs

I think this is a very interesting section. Can we replace everything and live forever? That is certainly a question I would like to know. I never really thought about the fact that the day to day things we do to our body kind of makes us human cyborgs. We are altering our bodies or doing things to it that makes other things easier. I have seen things like this in many movies and games and the technology only seems to be getting stronger.

Artifacts from the Future

I thought that the prediction by the Jetsons of the video phones was pretty cool. They were skyping, facetiming, oovooing, and tangoing way before it was even a thing.

I also think that the QR code is a great tool to have. You may not be able to fit all the the info on a poster or screen so you can link more info right in the little code box. You certainly cant have a video on paper so having that QR code gives the audience more ways to be informed and research what they want.

Final Cut

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was interesting how you could have a little chip that could record your whole life. Then I began to think how long of a life you live before the chip stops recording, or runs out of space. I wondered how that little chip could hold so much memory. Then I began to think about my classmate Rob Lewis's blog about the file structures that are able to hold large amounts of data (The ELF).

Lucasfilm's Habitat

Intro

* This project was one of the first attempts to create a very large scale, commercial, many-user, graphical virtual environment.

* It proved to be a rich source of insights into the nitty gritty reality of actually implementing a serious, commercially viable cyberspace environment.

*Offers a number of important lessons for prospective cyberspace architects.

Lessons

*Communications bandwidth is a scarce resource
*An object oriented data representation is essential
*The implementation platform is relatively important
*Data communications standards

Second Life

* Throughout playing the game Second Life, I had a great experience. One thing I have always been interested in is aviation; all though I am scared to take a plane. In the game I was able to find people who have the same interest, and also learn how to fly a plane in the game. The second life community I joined was very helpful.
